Dr. Barbara Fatum is a California Credentialed School Psychologist and Social and Emotional (SEL) Learning specialist with 30+ years of experience working with students from Pre-K to Graduate-Level, teachers, parents, and administrators. Dr. Fatum is associated with a not-for-profit organization entitled, EQ4Peace, whose mission is to "create global peace by cultivating inner peace, interpersonal peace and social peace through emotional intelligence (EQ) education worldwide."
Dr. Fatum founded TeachEmotion in 2009. Her approach is strength-based; the focus is placed on developing each individual's EQ skills. EQ skills are the essence of strong connections necessary for human development and form the basis of healthy brain growth and social skills development.
In 2020, in collaboration with Mike Fatum and Dr. Stephen Morris, Dr. Fatum developed a series of online SEL lessons for teachers to use during this time of Distance Learning. The introduction and scripts for the lessons are included in the second section of this web site. The 10-15 minute videos are available in the third section. The fourth section contains articles written by Dr. Fatum and a complete introduction to Dr. John Medina's "Brain Rules."
It is my hope that this web site will be helpful during this difficult time for parents, students, teachers and administrators. The message of EQ is meant to bring Peace worldwide!!
Dr. Stephen Morris has a doctorate in education with a research and practical emphasis on using technology in education. He spent 25 years teaching at the University of San Francisco (USF) in the department of Business Analytics and Information Systems and has successfully developed tools to help improve student learning outcomes for programs and universities by using technology-enabled learning management systems.
Dr. Morris is well-versed in the online and hybrid/classroom model, having created both online and hybrid courses and curricula over the past 10 years. He has learned how to use online technology to go well beyond the simple mirroring of the face-to-face classroom. Instead, by embedding and leveraging technology itself into the online learning experience, Dr. Morris has shown schools how to not only engage students in an online environment, but also to improve student-learning outcomes beyond what is typically achieved in the classroom.
